Travel Disruption Between Manchester/Liverpool and Leeds
Information unpdated 24 August 2009
We now have some further information from National Rail about journeys between Manchester
and Liverpool airports and Leeds on Saturday 12th September
Manchester Airport
The usual direct trains from Manchester Airport to Leeds are disrupted on Saturday
12th September because of planned engineering works on one of the two lines between
Manchester and Leeds. Travel will still be possible using replacement bus services,
however please anticipate a rather disrupted journey.
I will attempt to greet all delegates arriving in Manchester for whom I have an
arrival time; we may be able to arrange lifts for some delegates depending on demand
and arrival time. Andrew Dearnley is coordinating this and you should contact him
as soon as possible with your flight details if you haven't already, as we will
be relying on volunteers and need to plan this well in advance.
If it is not possible to offer you a lift, or if you are travelling independently
and have not given us your estimated arrival time, there are two journeys per hour
for most of the day, these are at:
Ten minutes past the hour - replacement bus to Huddersfield, from where there
are frequent direct trains to Leeds; the total estimated journey time is two hours.
45 Minutes past the hour - replacement bus to Manchester Victoria from where
there are direct trains to Leeds.
Please note the luggage policy for replacement bus services:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/passen...ge-cycles.html
Depending on the arrival times of other delegates, I may be able to accompany delegates
on the journey across Manchester if neccesssary and help you to find the right train
at Victoria; if not, I can certainly escort you to the bus departure point at Manchester
Airport and give you detailed instructions on the day.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The nearest rail station to Liverpool Airport is Liverpool South Parkway, this is
a five minute shuttle service away from the airport, costing £2.05 for a one way
adult fare.
It will be possible to travel all the way to Leeds by train without using a replacement
bus service, however there will be at least one (in some cases two) changes neccessary
in the Greater Manchester area - where two changes are neccessary, the second jouney
will be very brief. Please use the journey planner to find your best option:
http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/jp
(please enter 'Liverpool South Parkway' in the first box and 'Leeds' in the second)
The estimated travel time to Leeds from Liverpool on the Saturday is around three
hours.
On arrival in Leeds
The hotel is a short taxi journey from Leeds station, the cost of this should be
around £5.00
Travelling on other days
There are no planned disruptions on Friday 11th September or earlier in the week,
there will be direct trains from Manchester Airport to Leeds on this day, and at
most a single change for delegates arriving at Liverpool. Travel on Sunday 13th
will still be disrupted, possibly more so, as there are usually fewer scheduled
trains on Sundays.
BFCC sincererly apologise for this inconvenience; we will try our very best to give
individual advice to each delegate and do whatever we can to get you to the venue,
but we do need you to let Andrew know your travel plans as soon as possible if you
haven't already done so.
