British Correspondence Chess Association

British Correspondence Chess Association

In an atmosphere that is both competitive and friendly, the BCCA provides extremely well organised and entertaining chess that has something to offer to every chess player. Fourteen different tournaments and competitions ensure an unmatched variety of chess from which to choose, including the BCCA Annual Championship, Handicap, Gambits, Thematic, Endgame tourney and much more.

Playing Correspondence chess (CC) is an opportunity for over-the-board players to sharpen their analysis skills and deepen their opening knowledge. Many of our members combine CC with over-the-board play finding that the two are complimentary in every way.

Award winning Magazine

The BCCA magazine Correspondence Chess has been issued since 1949 and was voted ECF Magazine of the Year 2008! Packed with articles, tips and puzzles as well as providing up to date BCCA news and results, the magazine/yearbook is issued free to members quarterly.

Cost

All this for only £10 a year with each tournament costing around £2.

CC in the modern world

The BCCA has an unrivalled wealth of experience in providing traditional postal chess which many of our members continue to enjoy. However, the BCCA has not stood still and embraces modern technology offering e-mail and internet-based correspondence chess on a specially designed chess webserver in co-operation with the International Correspondence Chess Federation.

SchemingMind.com Internet Correspondence Chess Club

SchemingMind.com Internet Correspondence Chess Club

SchemingMind is a small but friendly online correspondence chess club established in 2002 and offering casual games, tournaments and team play on our own server. Although we have an international membership, SchemingMind is affiliated to the British Federation for Correspondence Chess and we regularly participate in ICCF rated team events.

Social Correspondence Chess Association

The SCCA was established in 1940 to provide quality correspondence and email chess to players of all standards. Within the SCCA you will find like-minded friends who wish to enjoy the game of correspondence chess.

The SCCA is a founder member of the British Federation of Correspondence Chess (BFCC). This allows our members to play in both National Tournaments through the BFCC and International Tournaments through the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF).

The SCCA enters all the main postal team competitions, including the British Correspondence Chess Team Championship, British Correspondence Chess League, Scottish Chess League and Scheming Mind Chess Tournaments and arranges friendly matches against other clubs and associations. We also run a variety of individual competitions, The Club Championship, League Tournament, Knockout Tournaments and Continuous Tournaments.

The club publishes its own quarterly magazine, "Checkmate" which contains tournament results, games, articles, news, gradings and other information. The annual membership is currently only £5.00 and includes free entry to all of the clubs team and individual tournaments.

The Friends of Chess

The Friends of Chess was founded in 1969 with the express objective of restoring Britain to the leading place it had occupied amongst the world's chess nations in the nineteenth century. The founding members were, C.H,O'D Alexander, David Anderton, Sir Richard Clarke, Harry Golombek, Ralph Hopton and Sir Stuart Milner-Barry.

A yearly subscription was instituted in order to aid and initiate such chess enterprises as International Tournaments, Matches, Team Events, etc. and in addition - perhaps most important of all - to assist British Chess Players to take part in suitable International Tournaments where title norms are available.

A large majority of our leading players who have achieved Grandmaster and International Master status have received financial support from The Friends of Chess during the early part of their chess career.
